Congratulations on making a commitment to your health!

Massage Therapy sessions can be a wonderful and positive experience. Here is what you can expect from a session at Historic Roswell Massage/Gallery Spa. We will:

  • Treat each other with respect
  • Respect personal and professional boundaries
  • Act ethically
  • Honor the healing process
  • Maintain strict confidentiality
  • Uphold high standards of cleanliness & hygiene (Sheets are used only once and professionally cleaned. Hypoallergenic lotion is always used.)

If this is your first massage ever, let me walk you through a typical session, so you will know what to expect.

Upon arrival you will be asked to fill out an intake form with your contact information and health history.  An honest history is very important to ensure that we understand all possible contraindications (reasons why massage would not be appropriate) and to help us design the best session suited to your needs. We will go over this information together in a private setting. We’ll have a chance to discuss any conditions, accidents, injuries, and emotional stresses in more detail. We might also do range of motion testing and postural analysis. If you are already receiving care for your condition, we are happy to collaborate with your chiropractor, doctor, physical therapist, acupuncturist, trainer or other health care provider. Your approval is required for this.

Once we have decided what areas need to be addressed, I will leave the room so you can get ready. If possible, it is best to wear minimal jewelry and casual clothing. Most people prefer to disrobe completely or to their underwear. You will then get under the covers and lay either face up, face down, or on your side depending on what we’ve discussed. I will knock before entering , and once we make sure you are comfortable, your massage will begin.

We strive to provide a safe, nonjudgmental environment where healing can occur. For the duration of your session you will remain professionally and ethically draped – only the body part being worked will be undraped. We will work within your comfort zone. When we find tight muscles you will feel that soreness, but we will massage them in a way that feels good, not painful. Open communication is a necessity! I’ll be checking in with you about the pressure, temperature, and overall comfort. You are encouraged to describe what you are feeling and to suggest any changes. Some people love deep, specific work, while others would find that too painful. Everyone is unique, and our open dialogue allows us to have a better session.

Once the massage is over, I will leave the room so you can get dressed. At check out we will briefly discuss what we found, self-care tips, and stretches that will help. I’ll also recommend a massage plan to get you back to where you want to be. When appropriate, I’ll offer referrals to other health care practitioners. Payment is due at time of service. Our friendly front desk manager will check you out and give you water.

After massage many people are deeply relaxed, feel less pain and stress, and notice improved range of motion. There’s also a good chance that you’ll sleep well that night. You’ll be thirsty because your body needs more water to facilitate the ongoing benefits of the massage, so please drink plenty of water and take it easy for the rest of the day. Heavy workouts are not recommended post-massage. You may experience mild soreness the next day. This is normal – it is your body’s reaction to releasing muscle spasms and tension. I truly hope that you enjoy your massage, and I am always available for follow-ups. You are encouraged to call if you have any questions.
